The Neck (Cervical Spine)

Neck Pain? Let’s Realign, Reset, and Help You Feel Like Yourself Again—Naturally!

Whether you woke up with a stiff neck, feel tension building from hours at a screen, or experience chronic pain radiating into your arms and head, neck pain can seriously derail your life. The good news? Chiropractic care offers a natural, hands-on solution that goes beyond temporary relief—by treating the cause, not just the symptoms.

What Exactly Does the Cervical Spine Do?

Your cervical spine, or neck, is made up of seven small vertebrae (C1–C7) that support your head, allow movement in every direction, and house the upper portion of your spinal cord. These vertebrae give you the ability to nod, rotate, tilt, and turn your head—all while protecting the nerves that run to your arms, hands, and beyond.

It also balances the weight of your head—about 10–12 pounds!—and coordinates with muscles in your shoulders and upper back to support posture, mobility, and nervous system communication. When the cervical spine is misaligned, compressed, or under strain, it can lead to pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, headaches, and even tingling in the arms and fingers.

How Do Neck Injuries Happen?

Acute neck pain can occur suddenly—after a car accident, a fall, or even sleeping in the wrong position. Injuries like whiplash, sprains, or strains can lead to sharp pain, reduced motion, and inflammation.

Chronic neck issues, however, tend to creep in slowly. Poor posture, tech use (“text neck”), stress-related tension, and desk work all contribute to progressive strain in the cervical spine. Over time, this can lead to persistent aching, tightness, pinched nerves, or recurring headaches.

Whether it hit you all at once or has been building for years, neck pain doesn’t have to be your new normal.

Ice or Heat? When to Use Which for Neck Relief

Both ice and heat play an important role in caring for neck discomfort—depending on whether the pain is new or long-term:

  • Acute neck pain (like a sudden strain or whiplash) often responds best to ice within the first 48–72 hours. Ice helps control swelling, numb sharp pain, and reduce inflammation. Apply for 15–20 minutes with a towel as a barrier.

  • Chronic neck stiffness typically responds better to heat, which helps relax tight muscles, increase blood flow, and improve mobility. It’s particularly useful before stretching, adjustments, or therapeutic exercises.

Alternating both therapies strategically can help manage discomfort and support recovery between chiropractic visits.

How a Chiropractor Evaluates and Treats Neck Pain

When you visit our office with neck pain, we take a full-body, root-cause approach—because your neck doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s deeply connected to your shoulders, upper back, nervous system, and even your posture and habits.

We assess:

  • Cervical range of motion and spinal alignment

  • Muscle tension, joint stiffness, and postural imbalances

  • Neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, or radiating pain

  • How the neck interacts with the thoracic spine and shoulder girdle

  • Breathing, head carriage, and core stability

From there, we determine whether your discomfort is muscular, joint-related, disc-related, or neurological in origin. With that insight, we create a personalized treatment plan that may include gentle chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, postural retraining, and mobility exercises that relieve pain and retrain your nervous system for healthier movement patterns.

The goal? Not just relief—but lasting, confident motion.
